Kids Delenn making face

Delenn and de teacher

Posted on 08.13.2007 at 10:38 pm
I should have known that not everything was going to go smoothly at school. Delenn came home today a little disgruntled, waving a paper at me with a picture of a Native American and the letters "Ii" printed on it. (We are not Politically Correct at our school. At least not when teaching children to read.)

She pointed to the "i" and told me, "De teacher said dis is a little i."

"Uh-huh," I agreed.

"It's not a little i. It's a lowercase i."

"Ohhh." Belatedly I remembered teaching her that a while back, thinking that "Big A" and "Little a" sounded somewhat...well, childish. "And did you tell her that?"

Dumb question there.

"Yes, ma'am, I did. And she said dat was right, but she was going to call it a little i anyway."

Her tone very clearly said that she did not understand this persistence of error after it had been pointed out.

I think we can all sympathize with that feeling.

Things are looking up!

The computers are back online and the building has cooled down somewhat.

Coffee has been stolen from the Financial Crimes office upstairs. Despite it being full of detectives, since it did not involve bank fraud or forgery or computers they are ineffective, and are even now wandering around plaintively trying to figure out where all the coffee went. *insert evil laugh here* Little do they know that I have a Man on the Inside.

And there is zombie!Ianto crackfic, which makes up for the building continuing to vibrate.

Carry on, everyone. This is as good as it gets for a Monday.

I know, I know, I need to shut up and go away, but one last *headdesk* before I do.

--The city-parish computers went offline over the weekend, and the A/C went down. This is more of a problem here than it might be in some areas, as at 7:00 AM it's already 87 degrees and rising rapidly, and the humidity is such that you don't have to iron your clothes before work because by the time you walk several blocks in, the wrinkles are all steamed out.

--The construction guys are already hard at work, diligent souls that they are.

This is God's way of telling me, Go home where it's cool and there's coffee and peace and quiet. Except that "cool" there is hit-and-miss also, as the line in the drip pan in the attic is clogged up and until we can get it unclogged, we're either going to be sweating, or siphoning five gallons of water out every day. So far we've opted for the siphoning.

Okay, I'm sorry, /whining.

Dining Out

So, last night Mr. T. and Delenn and I went out with some friends to a really nice restaurant in town. Wonderful food, good atmosphere, friendly service...wait a minute...that waiter looks really familiar. And not in a good way.

Cut for DW S3 villain spoilersCollapse )

The Powers That Be have decided that what Capitol City really, really needs is a new courthouse. And where it should be, is in our parking lot.

No, really. It will be about ten feet away from our building. And because of where my office is located, what I am currently hearing is jackhammers busting up concrete about five feet away from my desk.

The whole building is shaking and vibrating. We're having to yell to hear each other. I already get through this job fueled entirely by coffee and Advil (and fanfiction). I estimate that the Advil consumption will be going up by a factor of hundreds.

Construction is estimated to take two and a half years...

Mr. T. would like to point out that the playhouse is not 10X10. It is, in fact, 12X12, with a four-foot porch, which technically makes it 12X16. With a 10-foot ceiling, but a cathedral finish which winds up making it some terrific height or other at the top.

Mr. T. is very proud of the playhouse. Justifiably, I suppose. :D

I haven't gone AWOL, really; LJ isn't letting me sign in at all most of the time, and then when I do, odds are I can't view comments or friendspages. I don't know what's going on, but I hope they fix it SOON.

Posting via Semagic because I thought everyone should share the sheer o_O inspired by a sign on a church that I saw yesterday.

Cut for...I don't even know what. NSFW? Blasphemy? Poor spelling? No clue.Collapse )
